Fact Check

NewsMeter found thatthe video is related to the Israel-Palestine conflict but is at least a decade old.

We noticed the logo of Al Jazeera in the video. Taking this as a clue and using the text in the video, we ran a relevant keyword search and found a documentary by Al Jazeera published in July 2016. The viral clip appears at 32:56 minutes.

According to the channel, the documentary was recorded in 2014. It shows Israelā€™s Operation Protective Edge, which was launched to stop alleged rocket fire from Gaza into the occupied territories. It shows cameraman Khaled Hamad joining local paramedic Fouad Jaber in Shujayea as they attend to the dead and wounded at the height of the Israeli raid. It also mentioned Hamadā€™s camera never stopped shooting even after he came under direct attack and continued rolling long after he had taken his final breath.

A 2014 report by The Guardian also reported that the 25-year-old Palestinian news cameraman, Khaled Hamad, was killed in Gaza, reportedly during Israeli artillery shelling of the cityā€™s Shujayea residential district.

A report by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said more than 60 Palestinians and 13 Israeli soldiers were killed in clashes between Israeli and Hamas forces in Shujayea. It also said Khaled Hamad was working on a film for the local Continue Production Films about the dangers that Palestinian medics face in Gaza. He and Fouad Jaber, a Palestinian medic, were killed by Israeli shelling.

Hence, we conclude that the viral clip is from 2014 and does show the killing of a Palestinian cameraman and paramedic in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
