Hyderabad: A video of a man helping a dog rescue its puppies that were trapped under debris is doing the rounds on social media. People sharing the video are linking it to the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on 6 February.


According to media reports, rescue operations continue in the two quake-hit countries and the total death toll in both countries has crossed 33,000.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the video dates back to 2019 and is from Udaipur, Rajasthan.

We performed a reverse image search of the video and found an extended version of the video published on 28 August 2019 by the YouTube channel Animal Aid Unlimited, India. At around 1:07-minute, the viral clip appears in the video.

The video is titled ā€œMother dog helps rescuers dig for her buried puppies.ā€ The description states the puppies were trapped in the rubble after a house collapsed due to rain.

Animal Aid Unlimited also published the extended version of the same video on its verified Facebook page on 28 August 2019.

According to the organisationā€™s website, Animal Aid Unlimited rescues and protects animals and is based in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Speaking to NewsMeter, Raj Kishore Kumar from Animal Aid Unlimited confirmed that the video is from Udaipur and dates back to 2019.

Hence, we conclude that the viral video is not from the quake-hit Turkey and the claim is false.
