Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the video has been on the internet since at least 2020.
Upon conducting a reverse image search of the video's keyframes, we found the same clip posted by Facebook users in
2020,
2021 and
2023. The user who shared the video in 2020 suggested in the caption that the video is from the Gir forest of Gujarat.
The 2023 post mentioned in the caption that the tigers were roaming in the Pachpedwa-Bankatwa. Upon searching, we found Bankatwa is a locality in Pachpedwa block in the Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh. In the comment section of this post, however, several people pointed out that these tigers can not be found in Uttar Pradesh and they must be from Gujarat.
NewsMeter reached out to Srikanth, a PRO who previously worked with the forest department of Telangana. He stated that the video is from Gujarat and the claim that it is from Telangana is false. We have also reached out to the Nagarkurnool District Forest officer (DFO). The story will be updated as and when he responds.
NewsMeter could not independently verify the exact location of the video. However, it has been on the internet since at least 2020. Hence, it is clear that the video is not from a recent incident in Telanganaās Nagarkurnool district.
