HYDERABAD: On April 11, five passengers were crushed to death after a train ran over them in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam.

Social media users are sharing a video of a person falling on a train platform and hitting an advertisement standee leading to his death.

Users claim it is the footage of Srikakulam train accident.

The video is being shared with a text in Hindi that mentions the incident that took place in Andhra Pradesh and claimed "seven innocent lives." It is being shared with the hashtags #trainaccident and #AndhraPradesh.

FACT CHECK:

NewsMeter performed a keyword search and found a few websites that carried the same video. However, the video was uploaded in November 2018. The video was shared without any context. Clearly, the video is old and not recent.


On April 11, passengers traveling on the Guwahati Express had pulled the emergency chain when they noticed smoke coming out of the train. They got off the train and waited on the adjacent track when another train, the Konark Express, came from the opposite direction and hit them. (Read more here and here)

Although NewsMeter could not independently verify the viral video's date of occurrence and location of the incident, it is clear that it is not linked to the recent Srikakulam train tragedy.
