Hyderabad: On 4 September, Pakistan pulled off an extraordinary chase defeating India by five wickets in their second match in the Asia Cup.
Following this, a video reportedly showing celebratory fireworks in Srinagar after India's defeat is doing the rounds on social media.
A Facebook user shared the video with the caption, "Fireworks broke out in Srinagar after the Pakistan victory." (Translated)
The video was also shared by the official Twitter handle of the Hindi news channel Sudharashan News claiming that the people of Srinagar celebrated India's defeat by bursting crackers. The channel called the people of Srinagar snakes and called for their complete annihilation.
After being called out by several users, the channel deleted the post.

Sagar Kumar, a journalist working with Sudarshan News, also posted the video on Twitter with misleading information. He, too, deleted the video after being called out by the Srinagar police. Click here to access the archived version of his post.
Fact Check
NewsMeter performed a reverse image search on the keyframes of the video and found the same video posted on Facebook by Kashmir's local news outlets on 14 August 2020. They reported that it showed celebrations of the Independence Day of Pakistan in Nawakadal of Srinagar.
The Facebook post by the local news outlets can be accessed here, here, and here.
Further, we found that the Twitter handle of the Srinagar police had warned journalist Sagar Kumar to not "spread fake news and sensationalism by circulating old videos. Nothing of this sort was reported anywhere."
The Srinagar police also added, "The video is half a decade old from Nawakadal chowk. Don't spread fake news and sensationalism by circulating old videos. Nothing of this sort was reported from anywhere."
NewsMeter could not independently verify the exact year the video was taken. However, we did find that the video was posted on social media in 2020.
It is evident that an old video is being passed off as the people of Srinagar celebrate Pakistan's win against India in the Asia Cup match. Hence, the claim is false.
