Hyderabad: Amid ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, a video showing a large convoy of Taliban vehicles has been circulating on social media.
It is being claimed that the video depicts Afghan forces marching toward Pakistan to alter the Durand Line—the contested border between the two nations. The video also shows shooting, rocket launching and hoisting of the Taliban flag.
Sharing the video, an X user wrote, “The army of Afghanistan has already marched to change the Durand Line. India should also heat up the LOC for a few days.” (Translated from Hindi) (Archive)
NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading, as the video shows a Taliban convoy, but it is from December 2024, not during the ongoing conflict.
A reverse image search of the video’s keyframes led to the same footage published by Kanal 13, an Azerbaijan-based verified YouTube channel, on December 28, 2024.
According to the channel’s report, Taliban forces had launched military operations on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, resulting in the deaths of 19 Pakistani soldiers and three Afghan civilians during heavy clashes in Khost and Paktia provinces. The fighting followed Pakistan’s airstrikes on Afghanistan’s Paktika province, which killed 46 people, including women and children.
We also found the video published by Israel-based Newsreal on December 27, 2024. The media outlet reported a massive deployment of Taliban forces after Pakistan airstrikes killed 46 Afghans.
We also found the screengrab from the video carried by several national and foreign media outlets (links here, here, here and here) reporting an escalating clash between Afghanistan and Pakistan in December 2024.
Therefore, we conclude that the video of the Taliban convoy is from December 2024, not from the conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan in 2025. The claim is misleading.
