Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the photo dates back to 2010 and shows flood victims waiting for food and water at a makeshift camp in Sukkur, Pakistan.

We performed a reverse image search of the photo and found it in a report by CNN from 24 August 2010. It said 8,000 to 10,000 people were affected by the flood in Sukkur, Pakistan and the photo showed flood victims waiting for food and water at a relief camp.

The Guardian also published several photos, including the viral one, on 24 August 2010 while reporting the situation in Pakistan in the aftermath of the disaster caused by the flood.

We also found the photo in a 2021 report by the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad on challenges to food security.

It is evident that the photo is from 2010 and does not show the current food crisis in Pakistan. Hence, we conclude that the claim is misleading.
