Hyderabad: A set of photos—a newspaper clipping about two girls, Shivani and Riya, who observed a fast during Ramzan and photos of a woman with a bruised face—is being shared on social media with claims of "Love Jihad."

An Instagram user shared the collage claiming that the woman with the bruised face is a Hindu girl, Shivani, and she was assaulted by her Muslim husband.

Fact Check

Taking a cue from the title in the newspaper clipping, NewsMeter ran a keyword search and found a report published by Dainik Bhaskar in 2019. It said two Hindu girls, Shivani and Riya, from Madhya Pradesh set an example of Hindu-Muslim unity by fasting for a day during Ramzan.

We also found a video report in which the two girls spoke about fasting.

Further, we performed a reverse image search of the image of the woman with a bruised face and came across news reports from 2019 that identified the woman as Hajra Bibi from Pakistan, who was tortured by her husband Umair Noorani, his brother and relatives for not bringing money from her parents.

According to Geo News, "The medical report revealed that Hajra's eyes, neck, head and other parts of her body bore torture marks."

It is evident that the woman with the bruised face is from Pakistan. Hence, the claim of love jihad is false.
