Fact Check: Photos show filmmaker Mira Nair, son Zohran Mamdani, with Jeffrey Epstein? No, they are AI-generated
Claim:The images depict filmmaker Mira Nair and a young Zohran Mamdani with Jeffrey Epstein and other high-profile figures.
Fact:The claim is misleading. The images are AI-generated.

According to the latest Epstein files released by the US Justice Department, Indian filmmaker Mira Nair, the mother of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, had attended an “after party” for a film at the townhouse of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

In this context, three images of Nair and Mamdani, alongside Epstein, who died in custody in 2019, and other public figures have been circulating on social media to portray alleged close links of Nair with Epstein.

An X user shared the images with the caption, “Mira Nair, mother of NY mayor Zohran Mamdani, present in #EpsteinFiles. Her pics with Jeffrey Epstein while holding little Mamdani in her arms are taking rounds on the internet. Zohran’s granny runs an NGO for street kids in India, and the human trafficking rate in India is pretty high.” (Archive)

Are these images real?

Fact Check

NewsMeter found the claims misleading, as all three images shared in the posts are AI-generated. Red flags in the image

The images appear glossy with blurred backgrounds, which is often an indicator of AI-generated visuals. We also noticed that the images contain a watermark reading “DFF.”

What is “DFF”?

A search for “DFF” shows that it refers to a parody account on X called DumbFckFinder, which regularly posts AI-generated images, videos, and memes. A review of the account shows that it has shared AI-generated visuals of several public figures, including Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and filmmaker Mira Nair. Notably, some of these figures, including Bill Clinton and Bill Gates, have also been mentioned in the recently released Epstein-related court documents, a context often exploited by such parody accounts to create misleading or sensational content.

What is the result of the AI-detection tool?

We subjected the three images to analysis on the AI-detection tool Undetectable AI, which confirmed that the images were created using AI.

Which generative AI has been used to create the images?

We uploaded the images to the Google DeepMind SynthID detector, which found that the images were made using Google AI. Therefore, we conclude that all three images are AI-generated and do not show that they were taken from any real meet-up or event.
