Hyderabad: Two videos showing prime minister Narendra Modi addressing the conflict with Pakistan are going viral on social media.
These videos claim to show PM Modi talking about the war with Pakistan, the devastation it wreaked on the country and apologising for the situation. One of the videos was shared on X with the caption, āIndia after losing the war⦠Modi apologised. (sic)ā (Archive)
The second video was shared on X with the caption, ā#Modi apologises from the nation for the humiliation India suffered at hands of #Pakistan⦠Confesses that he never imagined that #India will get a thrashing of his life⦠(sic)ā (Archive)

Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the viral claim is false. The videos of prime minister Narendra Modi apologising to the nation are AI-generated.
Using keyword searches, we did not find any news reports that stated that PM Narendra Modi held a press conference to apologise to the nation. There are no credible social media posts regarding the same.
Video 1
In this video, PM Modi could be seen speaking in Hindi, saying, āWe thought we could make Pakistan weak. But today we ourselves are shattered. Please do not torment us anymore. We want peace... End this war. Please forgive us.ā
The video featured unnatural movement of his facial features and the voice of PM Modi did not quite match up with the voice generally heard in his other videos.
We used a 20-second sample clip of the viral video and analysed it using Hive Moderator to check whether the video was manipulated using AI. The results revealed that the video is 99.6 per cent likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content.

Video 2
In this video, PM Modi can be heard talking about the war with Pakistan, the purported destruction the war has wreaked on the country and the subsequent ceasefire.
However, this video also has weird facial movements that are disconnected from the body language. The audio is robotic with many unnatural pauses.
A 20-second sample clip from the viral video was analysed using Deepware. The video was found to be a deepfake. Three out of four models have determined that the video is over 98 per cent deepfake.
NewsMeter concluded that the video is a deepfake.
Therefore, the claim that PM Modi apologised for the conflict with Pakistan is false.
