Fact Check: Rahul Gandhi credits Mahatma Gandhi for the constitution, not Ambedkar? Here are the facts
Claim:Rahul Gandhi credited only Mahatma Gandhi for the creation of India’s Constitution.
Fact:The claim is misleading. The viral video is edited. The unedited version shows Rahul Gandhi crediting both Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi for their contributions to the Constitution.

Leader of the Opposition (LOP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is leading the 16-day ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ across Bihar, rallying public support against alleged electoral roll manipulation ahead of the state’s assembly polls. Joined by opposition leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav, the march highlights issues of voter rights and accuses the Election Commission (EC) and the BJP of large-scale voter list deletions.

Meanwhile, a clip from the 'Yatra' has been circulating on social media, allegedly showing Rahul Gandhi crediting only Mahatma Gandhi for India’s Constitution. Those sharing the video are using it to take a jibe at Ambedkarites, pointing to Rahul Gandhi’s apparent omission of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s role.

In the video, Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “Who made the Constitution? Who made the Constitution? Gandhiji sacrificed his life and made the constitution.”

An X user shared the video with the caption, “The Constitution was made by Mahatma Gandhi: Rahul Gandhi. Today, even the Constitution has been stolen by the blue pigeons (Derogatory reference to Ambedkar’s followers, blue being associated with Ambedkar and the Dalit movement). This PM of the sycophants has gone mad. (Archive)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found the claim to be misleading. The viral video was deceptively edited. In the original footage, Rahul Gandhi clearly credits both Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi for their contributions to the Constitution.

A reverse image search of the clip’s keyframes led us to the unedited and longer version of the video posted by Maktoob Media on August 22.

“‘Ambedkar dedicated his life to creating the Constitution, and vote theft is an attack on it' | Rahul Gandhi in 'Voter Adhikar Yatra',” read the post’s caption.

In the video, Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying: "Who made the Constitution? Who made the Constitution? Ambedkar ji dedicated his entire life to creating the Constitution. Gandhiji sacrificed his life and made the constitution.”

He further states, “This vote theft is an attack on the Constitution. The poor of India must understand that this Constitution safeguards and protects you. This is your voice. Narendra Modi and Adani are working together to destroy it. They want to destroy Ambedkar ji's Constitution. We will never allow the Constitution to be destroyed. The Constitution is the voice of India, the voice of Ambedkar ji…”

Further, we checked Rahul Gandhi's YouTube channel and found a live-streamed video from August 21. The footage shows Opposition leaders, including Mukesh Sahani, Dipankar Bhattacharya, Tejashwi Yadav, and Rahul Gandhi, addressing crowds from a jeep during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar's Munger district.

At approximately the 12-minute mark, Yadav hands the microphone to Rahul Gandhi to address the gathering. The viral clip begins around the 20-minute mark. However, the complete video clearly shows Rahul Gandhi crediting both Ambedkar and Gandhi for their roles in creating the Constitution. He emphasises that the Constitution is “the voice of India, the voice of Ambedkar ji,” and declares that the Opposition will never allow it to be destroyed.

Therefore, we conclude that the viral clip showing Rahul Gandhi crediting only Mahatma Gandhi in the creation of the Constitution is edited. The claim is misleading.
