Fact Check: Rahul, Priyanka visit Delhi station stampede victims? No, viral video is from 2024
Claim: The video shows Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi visiting the New Delhi Railway Station stampede victims of February 15.
Fact: The claim is false. The video shows the Gandhi siblings visiting the Kerala landslide victims in August 2024.

Hyderabad: On February 15, a massive stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station resulted in at least 18 deaths and numerous injuries. The incident took place around 8 pm as thousands of passengers gathered to board trains heading to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

In this context, a video circulating on social media shows Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi wearing masks while visiting what appears to be a hospital-like setting. Priyanka Gandhi is also seen hugging people in the room. The accompanying claim suggests that the Gandhi siblings visited the victims of the New Delhi Railway Station stampede.

An X user shared the video and wrote, ā€œWho is responsible for the deaths in the stampede at Delhi Railway Station ā€“ the opposition? The Prime Minister and the Railway Minister should resign as soon as possible. Respected Rahul Gandhi stands with the people of the country and the families of those who lost their lives in the Delhi tragedy.ā€

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The video shows the Gandhi siblings visiting victims of Wayanad landslides in 2024.

Upon a reverse image search of the videoā€™s keyframes, we found the video shared by several X handles (links here, here and here) in August 2024, stating that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi visited a hospital in Wayanad, Kerala, to meet the families of landslide victims.

We found similar visuals in a Hindustan Times video report published on August 2, 2024, titled ā€˜Wayanad Landslides: Rahul Gandhi Gets Emotional After Meeting Victims, Promises to Build 100+ Houses.ā€™ In the report, both Congress leaders can be seen wearing the same outfits as in the viral video.

According to the news outlet, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were in Wayanad to oversee the rescue operations. The Gandhi siblings visited a relief camp, met the victims and offered assistance. Both Rahul and Priyanka hugged the landslide victims and offered support.

On August 1, 2024, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi shared videos of their visit on their official X accounts, showing them addressing the public and the media.

Therefore, we conclude that the viral video shows the Gandhi siblings visiting the Wayanad landslide victims in 2024, not the New Delhi Railway station stampede victims. The claim is false.
