A disturbing video of a man taking out a newborn baby from the debris is doing rounds of social media. Several users have claimed that the video shows a child being rescued from rubble after the recent earthquake in Morocco.

An X premium user shared the video with the caption, “Here, a newborn baby is dug out of the debris after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake devastates Morocco. Pray for this child.”

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the video is from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

We ran a relevant keyword search and found the same video posted by another user, who tagged the Kanpur police in the post. The official X handle of the Kanpur Dehat police posted a video clarification on September 10, stating a premature newborn baby was found by a couple Rajesh and Reshma in Pulandar village, Moosa Nagar of Kanpur Dehat.

Kanpur Dehat police also posted another video of the rescued infant, stating the newborn was found in the field in Pulandar village, which comes under Moosa Nagar police station. It is also mentioned that the baby was admitted to CHC Devipur and is currently healthy.

Next, we again ran a keyword search and came across reports by Aaj Tak and Dainik Bhaskar, on the incident with the same details.

Hence, we conclude that the video shows a newborn infant recovered in Kanpur, not Morocco. The claim is false.
