Hyderabad: A viral screenshot claims that the government has announced the closure of schools and colleges for the next 15 days.
Similar messages regarding the cancellation of board exams and lockdowns in several states are doing the rounds.
There is rampant misinformation and fake news following the rise in Covid-19 cases in China and a few other countries.
So, did the Indian government announce a lockdown for 15 days in any state?

NewsMeter performed a keyword search to find credible media reports about the lockdown but could not find any. However, we found a tweet from 4 January 2023 by Press Information Bureau, a government fact-check agency, that refuted the viral claim.
It is evident that the viral WhatsApp message about a lockdown is false.
