Fact Check: Shocking video of woman’s murder is from Brazil, not Manipur

Hyderabad: A disturbing video showing a woman being brutally murdered is going viral on social media, with users claiming that the video shows the murder of a Christan woman by RSS members in Manipur.
A Twitter user shared the video (trigger warning: viewer discretion advised) with the caption, “Pray for Manipur Christians: Killing Christian woman in Manipur: Video of Christian woman brutally murdered by RSS mob.”
A Facebook user also shared a screenshot from the video claiming the same.

NewsMeter found that the incident happened in Brazil in 2020.
On performing a reverse image search of the video’s keyframe, we found that the video (trigger warning: viewer discretion advised) was tweeted by a user on September 17, 2020. The user mentioned in the caption that the video shows a 23-year-old woman, Thália Torres de Souza, who was abducted and murdered in Brazil.
We also found the video uploaded on a website, Documenting Reality, on September 8, 2020. The website also said that the video is from Brazil.
A Portuguese news website, cn7, reported the incident on September 1, 2020. It said Thália Torres de Souza was kidnapped and killed in Fortaleza in the Brazilian state of Ceará. It also mentioned that 17 women were murdered in the month of August in Ceará. The incident was also reported by another media outlet with the same details.
Hence, we conclude that the video showing the gruesome murder of a woman is from 2020 Brazil and not from Manipur this year.
