Did Simpsons predict Elon Musk will rebrand Twitter as 'X'?

Hyderabad: Several social media users have shared a post claiming that The Simpsons already predicted the rebranding of the microblogging platform Twitter.

The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening. The series shows a satirical depiction of American life epitomized by the Simpson family.

The internet is abuzz as the app formerly known as Twitter changed to X on 23rd July 2023. Since then, a lot of developments have been made to the app.

Amidst all this, a conspiracy theory of Simpsons predicting the logo X is being widely circulated on social media.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found the claim to be false as the viral image had been fabricated.

Performing a simple reverse image search, we found the same image published on a Simpson fandom website called Simpsons Wiki back in 2014.

On closely analyzing the image on the website, we found that the 'X' logo over here looks nothing like the viral image.

In another result of the same reverse image search, we found the same image to be uploaded back in 2012 on a website called Kriken's World. The image was a screenshot from "The Simpsons" TV show, Episode 21 of Season 23: "Ned 'N Edna's Blend."

Hence, it is evident that the viral image claiming that the Simpson prediction is fabricated. The Simpsons did not predict the rebranding of Twitter 'X'.
