Hyderabad: Pat Cummins will lead Sunrisers Hyderabad as they kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Rajasthan Royals, captained by Sanju Samson, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on March 23 (Sunday).
Sunrisers’ aggressive batting approach made a significant impact last season, with three instances of surpassing 250 runs—two of which became the highest team totals in IPL history. Under Cummins’ leadership, the team has built a fearless and attacking identity.
Amid this, an Instagram reel is circulating, claiming to show a screengrab from an SRH practice match where the team crossed 400 runs in just 19 overs, and Travis Head scored a century off 19 balls. (Archive)
The reel, posted with the caption, “Travis Head Score 100 in just 19 Balls,” features an overlay text reading, “SRH BATTERS ARE PRACTICING TO CROSS 400 THIS TIME.”
The scoreboard displayed in the video shows SRH-A at 401/7 in 19.4 overs, with T. Head at 100* (19) and I Kishan at 50 (12), while SRH-B’s bowler H Patel is shown conceding 17 runs in 0.4 overs.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The match shown in the video did not feature Travis Head, and the score at the time of the screenshot was 104/2 in 5.4 overs.
A keyword search led to the official YouTube channel SunrisersIPL, where we found a live-streamed video titled ‘Intra-squad Match Simulation 1 | Sunrisers Hyderabad | IPL 2025,’ uploaded on March 15, 2025.
A thorough review of the four-hour-long video showed that SRH never crossed 400 runs during the match, and Travis Head did not play. By closely analysing the footage, we identified the exact moment when the viral screengrab was taken at a time stamp 01:30:09 hours—at the 01:30:09 mark. The final score of the match was 260/10.
The scoreboard in the original video did not match the edited one in the viral post.
Here’s the comparison of the viral video screenshot and the official match screenshot.
In the official match video, the actual score at that point was 104/2 in 5.4 overs, with H Patel (0-17, 0.4 overs) bowling for SRH-B after conceding 4,1,6,6 in his first over. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan was at 53 (16), and S Baby was at 13 (6) for SRH-A.
A reverse image search of the viral screenshot led us to the original post on Facebook by Cricspirit.com from March 16, 2025, which displayed the correct match score.
Here is the comparison:
The viral post was edited from this original post to fabricate a false claim. A comparison of both versions confirmed that the scoreboard was tampered with.
Therefore, the claim that SRH crossed 400+ runs in a practice session is false. The scoreboard in the viral video was altered and the data was fabricated.
