Fact Check: TDP MPs not part of India’s UN delegation? Here’s the truth
Claim:TDP MPs are not on the list of India’s non-official delegation to the UN General Assembly.
Fact:The claim is misleading. Two MP groups are visiting the UNGA. TDP MP Sribharat Mathukumilli is part of the first group. The viral screenshot shows only the second group.

Hyderabad: Lok Sabha MP PP Chaudhary is set to lead the first of two non-official Indian parliamentary delegations to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Two separate teams, each comprising 15 Members of Parliament, will visit the UN headquarters this month. The first delegation, headed by Chaudhary, will be in New York from October 8 to 14, while the second group of MPs will travel later in October.

Amid this, a screenshot showing the list of MPs from the non-official delegation is circulating on social media with the claim that no TDP MP has been included.

In a now-deleted post, an X user shared the screenshot with the caption, “Telugu Desam Party was not even given a chance; it’s okay that Jana Sena has two MPs.” (Translated from Telugu) (Archive)

Another user shared the same list, congratulating YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy and claiming that no one from TDP or Jana Sena was selected. (Archive)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading. The viral screenshot shows only the second group of delegates, whereas TDP MP Sribharat Mathukumilli is part of the first group of India’s parliamentary delegation to the UNGA.

According to a report by ANI, dated October 6, the first group included the following MPs:

PP Chaudhary (BJP), Anil Baluni (BJP), Captain Brijesh Chowta (BJP), Nishikant Dubey (BJP), Ujjawal Deora Nikam (BJP), S Phangnon Konyak (BJP), Medha Vishram Kulkarni (BJP), Poonam Ben Maadam (BJP), Rajeev Rai (SP), Kumari Selja (INC), Vamsi Krishna Gaddam (INC), Vivek Tankha (INC), T. Sumathy (INC), Sribharat Mathukumilli (TDP) and NK Premchandran (RSP).

The second group, the one shown in the viral screenshot, includes D Purandeswari (BJP), Vishnu Datt Sharma (BJP), Bhola Singh (BJP), Dilip Saikia (BJP), Saumitra Khan (BJP), Rekha Sharma (BJP), Sajda Ahmed (TMC), P Wilson (DMK), PV Mithun Reddy (YSRCP), Indra Hang Subba (SKM), Joyanta Basumatary (UPPL), Sandeep Kumar Pathak (AAP), Niranjan Bishi (BJD), Manoj Kumar Jha (RJD) and GK Vasan.

Hence, the screenshot being shared online displays only the second group, which does not include any TDP MPs.

Meanwhile, TDP MP Sribharat Mathukumilli confirmed his participation via X.

He shared a post featuring fellow MPs PP Chaudhary, Vivek Tankha and Vamsi Krishna Gaddam, captioned, “En route to New York! Honored to attend the UN General Assembly with our Indian multi-party MP delegation in Group 1 led by PP Chaudhary garu. Looking forward to representing India and bringing the Andhra Pradesh perspective too.”

The claim that TDP MPs are not part of India’s non-official delegation to the UN General Assembly is misleading.

Two MP groups are visiting the UNGA, and TDP MP Sribharat Mathukumilli is part of the first group, while the viral screenshot shows the second group.
