HYDERABAD: Netizens claim that filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has donated Rs 200 crore to the Prime Minister's relief fund from the earnings of 'The Kashmir Files'.
Social media users are sharing this claim alongside a picture of Agnihotri, actor/producer Pallavi Joshi, and producer Abhishek Agarwal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
They also claim that the donation would be used for the welfare of Kashmiri Pandits.
The claim reads: "The producer of The Kashmir Files Vivek Agnihotri, fulfilling his promise, handed over a check of 200 crores to Modi Ji for the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. This money will be used for Kashmiri Pandits."
FACT CHECK:
NewsMeter could not find any reports on Agnihotri donating money earned from `The Kashmir Files' to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
In an interview, Agnihotri said that they had been helping and serving the community for the past few years but never made it public as he doesn't prefer talking about it. "We have been doing it for a long time and we will keep doing it for a long time but it's between us and them," he said.
Joshi said that she found it vulgar when people asked them how much money they would donate from the movie earrings to help Kashmiri Pandits. "This is a very vulgar question for people to ask because the film already has 4 producers. Who gets how much is very long-drawn mathematics. Also, whenever any producer makes money out of any film, they put it into other projects," she said.
The viral picture was not taken during the donation ceremony. This photo was shared by Abhishek Agarwal on Twitter a day after `The Kashmir Files' release.
Moreover, Agnihotri's team had clarified that the claim was a mere rumor when the Hindi news channel, Aaj Tak reached out.
The claim of Vivek Agnihotri donating Rs 200 crore to the PM's relief fund is false.
