Old image of auto rikshaw drivers protest shared as Bengaluru bandh
Social media users have shared an old image claiming it to be from the recent transport strike

The transport union in Bengaluru were observing a bandh to urge the government for the fulfilment of their demands. They were demanding Shakti scheme, life tax exemption, monthly grants and setting up of a development authority. The Bandh was called off today after government assured the fulfilment of their few demands.
Several social media users have shared an image of auto rikshaws claiming that the image is from the Bengaluru transport union strike.
An X user sharing the image with the caption ‘Picture of the day: Transport strike in Bengaluru’. The image has garnered more than 52 thousand views.

NewsMeter found that the image is old.
We conducted a reverse image search on the viral image and found several reports carrying the same image.
A report published by Prokerala website carrying the same image clarifying that the image is actually from the 2014 protest held against the hike in auto fuel price.
“Karnataka Auto-Rickshaw Driver Association during a protest rally against hike of auto fuel price in Bangalore on Jan. 25, 2014’, the title of the image reads.
Hence, we conclude that the image is actually from the protest against the auto fuel price hike in 2014.
