Fact Check: Viral image of a baby peacock is AI-generated

An image of an immensely cute bird is being widely shared on social media. Users claim it to be a real baby peacock.

The same post was found on Facebook and YouTube as well.

The image is being shared on X along with a caption: “'Your cuteness for the day a baby peacock.”

Although the tiny creature with bright blue eyes and blue feathers looks irresistibly cute, it looks quite unrealistic as well.

Let's find the veracity of the viral image.

NewsMeter found the claim to be false as the viral image is AI-generated.

We started our investigation by closely analysing the viral image and found the feet of the tiny lad slightly distorted as seen in AI-generated images.

Taking a hint from this, we performed a reverse image search and found the same image on a stock image website 'Adobe Stock’. It is known for AI-generated images.

Scrolling through the website, we also found images of real Peacock chicks.

Moreover, we found a tweet acknowledging the viral post with the images of real peacock chicks calling the viral image AI-generated.

The user said: “Real baby peacocks are actually adorable so please look at them instead of this AI creature.”
