A video is being shared with the claim that it shows a huge crowd gathering at the funeral of gangster Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad Ahmed.

Asad and his aid Ghulam were gunned down in an encounter in Jhansi by the Uttar Pradesh police on 13 April. Jailed gangster Atiq and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by two assailants posing as TV reporters while they were escorted by the police to a hospital in Prayagraj on 15 March.

NewsMeter found that the video shows the funeral of Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi.

On performing a reverse image search of the video’s keyframe, we found an extended version of the video published by a YouTube channel D.U.N.U.L on 13 April. The viral clip appears in this video at the 2.20-minute mark. The Urdu caption states that it shows the funeral of Hazrat Maulana Syed Muhammad Rabey Hasani Nadwi.

Another YouTube channel published the same video on 14 April. The caption also mentioned that the video shows the funeral of Hazrat Maulana Syed Muhammad Rabey Hasani Nadwi.

Next, we found a tweet from 13 April by a verified handle of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board announcing the demise of its president Hazrat Maulana Syed Muhammad Rabey Hasani Nadwi Sahab.

Finally, we ran a keyword search for Asad Ahmed’s funeral video and found a video tweeted on 15 April by ANI. It does not show the visual as seen in the viral video.

The viral clip has been on the internet since 13 April and Asad was buried on 15 April. Hence, we conclude that the viral video does not show the funeral of gangster Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad Ahmed. Hence, the claim is false.
