Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has clarified to NewsMeter that there is no truth in the allegations that gold was stolen from Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple. TTD in a statement said those spreading falsehoods are doing it for their identity and popularity.
It further said Old Huzur Office, where the gold work is going on in Tirupati, is under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. Those entering the working area have to enter their details in the register, and the strong room is guarded by Vigilance and Security sleuths. The work is going on as per the tenets of the traditional Shilpa Shastra under the supervision of JeeyangarSwamijis of Tirumala and other experienced Stapathis.
On the allegation of Muslim stealing the gold, TTD said that a Muslim friend of contractor Jyothi had come to invite her to the wedding of his kin. They met outside the premises where the gold work is being done. It also clarified that the Muslim man has not been given any sub-contract.
TTD has warned of legal action against those hurting the sentiments of millions of devotees by spreading fake news.
The fact check handle of the Andhra Pradesh government in a series of tweets also called out the fake claim along with the video doing rounds on social media. They also posted videos of a TTD official and the contractor denying the theft of gold from the temple.
