Fact check

NewsMeter found the claim to be false.

On performing a reverse image search of a screenshot of the video, we found similar images uploaded on a news report by NBC News dated February 6, 2023, which is also taken by Yahoo News as well.

The report titled, ā€˜Scenes of grief and destruction after devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.ā€™ Photos from the quake zone showed flattened buildings and a heartbreaking loss.ā€™ This confirms that the images are not recent but from the Turkey-Syria earthquake that happened earlier this year.

Taking it on Twitter, the Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara has also refuted the claim that the collapsing building is from Jammu and Kashmir. He wrote, ā€œI am myself in Karnah. There is no loss of any life or property. The News spread on social media platforms regarding the 3 deaths, is fake, concocted and baseless. Please donā€™t spread such fake news.ā€
