Fact Check: Tweet attributed to former PM Manmohan Singh is fake

Hyderabad: A Facebook user shared a post attaching a screenshot of a purported tweet by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He shared the tweet with misleading claims.

The text in the viral screenshot loosely translates to English as, "Indians wanted temples and Congress kept building institutions like IIT, IIM colleges, hospitals, airports, railways, dams ISRO for 70 years which are being sold today".

Fact Check

NewsMeter found the claim to be false as the screengrab is fake.

We started our investigation by performing a keyword search to find relevant reports on mainstream media outlets but could not yield any results. Had the tweet been true, it would have caught the media's attention.

On closely analyzing the screengrab, we noticed that the X username seen in the post @PMdrmanmohan is unverified, which led us to sense that the Twitter handle could be dubious.

Moving forward, we performed a search taking the username on the X platform and found that there is no account with the username.
