Hyderabad: Social media users are claiming All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) got 22.3 lakh votes in Uttar Pradesh elections.

Users also said Samajwadi Party lost 82 Assembly seats by less than 500 votes and 81 Assembly seats by less than 1000 votes.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP came first with 41.3% of the vote, followed by the Samajwadi Party with 32.1%. However, the MIM party did not get 22 lakh votes in this election.

According to the Election Commission, MIM polled 4,50,929 votes in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. That is 0.49% of the total polled votes.

According to the Election Commission data, the number of candidates lost by a margin of less than a thousand votes is only 15.

However, the Samajwadi Party candidates lost only 7 of the 15 seats by less than a thousand votes. Samajwadi Party's ally Rashtriya Lok Dal candidates lost by less than a thousand votes in two seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party candidates lost by a margin of less than a thousand votes in the remaining six seats.

The AIMIM has roughly secured 3.4 lakh votes in the UP assembly elections, according to EC data. "In 2017, AIMIM contested 38 out of the state's 403 seats and polled around 2 lakh votes ā€” which is just about 0.2 percent of the vote share. This time, it fielded 97 seats and did not win even one. The party's vote share, however, increased to 0.46 percent, considering the increase in the number of seats contested too," The Print reported.

Hence, the claim is misleading. MIM party polled only 4,50,929 votes, not 22 lakh in UP polls.
