In Manipur, there has been a prolonged clash between two ethnic groups, Kukis and Meiteis, which has led to widespread violence, death, and displacement. Since the violence began on 3 May, the clash has led to the deaths of 80 and over 40,000 people have been displaced from their homes.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found the video is from Myanmar. It shows State Administration Council (SAC) soldiers fighting against civilian soldiers in Kalay, Myanmar.

On performing a reverse image search of the video’s keyframe, we found the video published on 27 May by the verified Facebook account of The Hakha Post, a Myanmar-based organisation.

According to the caption, the video shows a clash between SAC and some civilian soldiers in the Kalay region. It also said 15 SAC soldiers were killed in the clashes.

We also found a keyframe of the video published on the verified Facebook account of BBC Burmese. The caption said military council troops suffered deaths and injuries during the clash in southern Kalay City.

Hence, we conclude that the viral video does not show violence in Manipur and the claim is false.
