Hyderabad: A video of a man reportedly shooting down a fighter jet by firing missiles is viral on social media, with users claiming that it shows an Israeli war helicopter being shot down by a member of the militant group Hamas during their surprise attack on Israel on October 7.

An X premium user shared the video with the caption, ā€œHamas fighters shot down Israel war helicopter in Gaza. (sic)ā€

Another X user shared the video with the hashtags ā€œ#Isarel #Hamas (sic)ā€.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the clip is from a video game called ARMA 3.

On performing a revere image search of the videoā€™s keyframe, we found the video posted on a Facebook page, Noakhaila kaga, on August 16. The date on the post confirmed that it predates the ongoing conflict between Israel and the militant group.

We skimmed through the comments on the post and found users saying that the clip is from the ARMA 3, a shooter simulation video game.

The About section of the page stated that it was run by a ā€˜gaming video creatorā€™ from Dhaka in Bangladesh.

We also found the video published by a verified YouTube Channel, RIM Studio, on February 27, 2023. In the description, it is mentioned that the video is a digital simulation and is not a real one.


Hence, we conclude that the viral video does not show visuals of Hamas shooting down the Israeli war helicopter. The claim is false.
