Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading.

On performing a reverse image search of the video’s keyframe, we found the same video tweeted by ANI on 19 February. It said the footage shows a lawyer being stabbed to death in Jodhpur. The news agency quoted Jodhpur ACP Nazim Ali Khan and said the accused, Anil Chauhan and Mukesh Chauhan, were arrested.

Taking a cue from this, we performed a keyword search and found the video in a 19 February report by Dainik Bhaskar. The Hindi newspaper also quoted Jodhpur ACP Nazim Ali Khan and said a senior lawyer, Jugraj Chauhan (55), was stabbed to death by Anil Chauhan and Mukesh Chauhan. The police arrested both accused.

It also said that Anil Chauhan and Mukesh Chauhan were accused in the accident case of Jugraj Chauhan’s son.

BJP leader Khushbu Sundar tweeted the same video on 22 February, calling out the state of law and order in the Congress party-ruled Rajasthan.

The verified handle of the deputy commissioner of police (East), Jodhpur police commissionerate, replying to the tweet, said the incident is related to a family land dispute and the accused has been arrested after registering a case, in the police station, Mata Ka Than, Jodhpur.

It is evident that there is no communal angle to the incident. Hence, we conclude that the claim that the video shows Muslim fundamentalists attacking a Hindu priest is misleading.
