Hyderabad: A video of a horrifying plane crash is being shared on social media with the claim that it is the Kathmandu-Pokhara flight that crashed recently.

On 15 January, a flight (Yeti Airlines) travelling from Kathmandu to Pokhara crashed after catching fire. Although the technical glitch behind the crash has not been revealed yet, multiple videos reportedly of the crash are circulating on social media.

FACT CHECK

NewsMeter found that the viral video is neither recent and nor is it of the Nepal incident. The video if from a year ago and shows a plane crash while performing a test flight near Moscow, Russia.

On performing a reverse image search, we found the same video on a report published on the official YouTube channel of CNN-News 18. It is titled “Military Plane Crashed In Moscow | Viral Video | Most Recent Plane Crash 2021.”

The description reads, “A military plane crashed in Moscow earlier this morning. Three people were on board. Russian media agency says that the three people are dead.”

Republic TV, UPI, and The Moscow Times had also reported the incident.

CNN, ABP News, and The Guardian had reported the real footage of the recent plane crash in Pokhara, Nepal.

It is clear that the video is from 2021 when a Russian prototype cargo plane with three people on board crashed during a test flight near Moscow. The video is not related to the 2023 Pokhara plane crash.

Hence, the claim is false.
