Hyderabad: A video that shows a man brandishing a knife being shot at by police is being shared with the claim that the video is from Uttar Pradesh.

A Twitter user shared the video and wrote, “Abdul was giving open threats in the market under the rule of Yogi Baba in Uttar Pradesh.” (Translated)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the video is from Kalaburagi, Karnataka.

On performing a reverse image search of the video’s keyframe, we found a longer version of the video tweeted by The News Minute. The tweet read, “Karnataka police opens fire at man brandishing knife.”

The News Minute also published the video on YouTube on 6 February.

According to the description, the Kalaburagi police shot a man brandishing a knife on 5 February. The accused was threatening the public in a crowded marketplace. He was arrested and later taken to the hospital for treatment.

On 6 February, Hindustan Times reported the incident and published a still from the video. It said the man threatening the people with a knife was identified by the police as Mohmmad Fazal Zafar (28). It also said he was shot by the Kalaburagi police and later arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Speaking to NewsMeter, a police officer confirmed that the incident happened in Kalaburagi, Karnataka. He also said the name of the accused is Mohmmad Fazal Zafar and he is still in the hospital.

Hence, we conclude that the viral video is from Kalaburgai, Karnataka, and the claim that the video is from Uttar Pradesh is false.
