Fact Check

NewsMeter ran a keyword search and found that The Indian Express had reported the incident. According to the newspaper, the husband of the deceased woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her. It also said that the body of the woman was found stuffed in a suitcase near IFFCO Chowk on National Highway 48 in Gurugram.

The police confirmed to the newspaper that on 17 October, around 11.30 p.m, the couple had a fight and the husband strangled her to death at their house. The woman was identified as a 20-year-old from Uttar Pradesh. The couple married in February 2021 and were living in a rented house in Gurugram.

Further, NewsMeter reached out to Gurugram's assistant commissioner of police (crime) Preet Pal who rubbished any communal angle to the incident and said the man and woman are of the same religion. He identified the accused as Rahul and the deceased as Priyanka.

It is evident from this that there is no communal angle to the incident. Hence, the claim is false.
