Hyderabad: A video of police detaining men is being shared with the claim that the Yogi Adityanath government arrested protestors in Uttar Pradesh after a rally was taken out against the RSS.
In the viral video, policemen can be seen barging into homes and dragging young men into the police vehicle.
A Facebook user shared the video and wrote, "The Yogi Adityanath government arrested Muslim men after they took out a rally to chop RSS men."
The video is being widely shared on Facebook and Twitter with the same claim.
We also found the video on YouTube shared with the same claim.
Fact Check
NewsMeter performed a reverse image search of the video's keyframes and found one of the keyframes used in an article published by The Siasat Daily on 25 August.
The article is titled "Prophet row: Hyderabad cops arrest youth from homes after protests intensify." It reported that youths launched protests demanding the arrest of suspended BJP MLA Raja Singh over his derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad in a video released on 22 August. On 23 August, Raja Singh was arrested, but he received bail the same day, which enraged many. On the night of 24 August, the police barged into several homes and detained a few dozen protestors.
Taking this as a cue, we ran a keyword search on YouTube and found a video report by The News Minute published on 25 August. It is titled "Protesters demand BJP MLA Raja Singh's arrest in Hyderabad" and has the same visuals as the viral video.
The description of the video states that protests broke out in many parts of Hyderabad's Old City after Raja Singh, who was arrested on 22 August for making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad, was given bail the same day. On the night of 24 August, the police barged into homes and detained many protestors after they pelted stones at the cops.
We then carefully watched the viral video and noticed a board with the text "SHAFFAF" at the beginning of the video. Using keywords, we found that it is a supplier of packaged drinking water. Further, we found the exact location of the board on Google Maps. It is located in Bnaajja Gali 2 in Shalibanda, Hyderabad.
It is evident that the viral video is from Hyderabad and not Uttar Pradesh. Hence, the claim is false.
