Hyderabad: A video reportedly of a clash between Hindus and Muslims in London over a cricket match is doing the rounds of social media.

Is the viral video really from a Hindu-Muslim clash? Let's find out.

Fact Check

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search with the screenshots of the video and found the same visuals in a media report published by News 18 on its official Facebook page on 27 September 2022.

The caption read, "#AntiHijab Protest: Dozens of protesters clash with police in London outside Iranian embassy."

It had used hashtags like #Iran, #Hijab, #HijabRow, #MahsaAmini, and #London.

Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman whose death led to massive protests across Iran, was allegedly beaten up by the country's controversial morality police for breaking the country's strict hijab rules.

We ran a keyword search and found a video report by Editorji published on YouTube on 26 September. The video description read, "British police said on Monday that 12 people were arrested and at least five police officers were seriously injured after violent disorder broke out during protests outside the Iranian Embassy in London. Large crowds had gathered all week outside the compound to protest the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in custody in Iran."

GB News had tweeted a similar video and said it showed Iranian protestors in London.

It is evident that the video is linked to the recent anti-hijab protests and shows Iranian protestors clashing with the police outside the Iranian embassy in London. It is not a Hindu-Muslim clash.
