HYDERABAD: A video of a lighting illusion projected on a tower is viral on social media. Users claim that this event took place at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur.

"This is the Umaid Palace Fort in Jodhpur. Its lighting looks as if the dome is falling. The cost to see it is Rs 3,000 (sic)," reads the message.

FACT CHECK:

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The lighting illusion event took place in Istanbul, Turkey, and not at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur.

A reverse image search led us to the same video on YouTube with the title," #GalataTower #LightShow, Galata Tower Light Show, Istanbul, Turkey".

The same video was also found in a tweet from May 2018 by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Official Account. The tweet reads," Galata Tower is colored with video mapping to promote the Istanbul Youth Festival".

Istanbul's historic Galata Tower serves as a video mapping show platform as part of promotional efforts for the Istanbul Youth Festival, according to Hurriyet Daily News.

The viral video shows a 3D art installation that was projected onto the side of the Galata Tower in Turkey. According to an article by the monthly American magazine, LiveDesign, "Cream Studio created a dynamic, 3D art installation that was projected onto the side of Galata Tower, using Maxon Cinema 4D, Redshift, and the mapping software Dataton Watchout".

We also compared the viral image to the Galata Tower in Turkey and to the Palace in Jodhpur. It matched with the Galata Tower.

Evidently, it is clear that the viral video of the lighting illusion is from Turkey and not Jodhpur.
