Hyderabad: A video of a luxurious train fitted with comfortable chairs and modern amenities is going viral on social media. A Facebook user shared the video claiming that the video shows the “rapid improvement” in the Indian railways’ infrastructure.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the video shows a train in Indonesia.
We carefully watched the video and found Indonesian text on the train. The word “nomor” means number, “buka” means open, “geyser” means shift, and “tutup pintu kembali” means close the door as per Google translate.
Next, we noticed “KAI” written outside the train. We Googled the word and found that KAI stands for “Kereta Api Indonesia.” It is a state-owned sole operator of public railways in Indonesia. We also verified KAI’s logo in the viral video is identical to that of the public Indonesian railways.
Taking these as cues, we ran a keyword search in the Indonesian language and found several images showing the interiors of the luxury train tweeted by the official handle of Kereta Api Indonesia. In the tweets, the train is described as Luxury Train 2.

Inovasi pelayanan terus dilanjutkan melalui Kereta Luxury 2, diluncurkan 26 Mei 2019. Walau msh mengusung konsep Sleeper, nmn terdapat bbrp perbedaan dgn Kereta Luxury sebelumnya. pic.twitter.com/umbPb2QOO5
In one of the images, we found identical equipment fitted in the train as seen in the viral video.
We also came across a 2019 report by CNN Indonesia which said on the occasion of Eid in 2019, Kereta Api Indonesia ( KAI ) launched a new type of sleeper train called Luxury 2. It said the train is equipped with seats that can recline up to 140 degrees and can be rotated 180 degrees and have electric footrests, televisions, and USB charging power source.
From these findings, it is evident that the video shows an Indonesian luxury train. Hence, we conclude that the claim that the video shows the improving infrastructure of Indian railways is false.
