Fact Check: Video of nude protest in Chhattisgarh falsely linked to Manipur violence

Hyderabad: A video showing a group of men staging a protest by stripping naked in public is going viral on social media, with users claiming that the footage is Manipur.
A Twitter user shared the video (viewer discretion advised) with the caption, āSee how people are protesting for #Manipur unexpected behaviour.ā

NewsMeter found that the video is from Chhattisgarh.
On performing a reverse image search of the videoās keyframe, we found an extended and blurred version tweeted by a user on July 19. He mentioned in the caption that the video shows youths from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) protesting naked against the Chhattisgarh state government, demanding action against those who used fake caste certificates to get jobs.
On July 18, Zee News published the same video. It said that the youths from the ST and SC communities reached Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha naked, protesting against those who got employment using fake caste certificates.
We also found a still from the video in a July 18 NDTV report titled āMen Stage Nude Protest In Chhattisgarhās Raipur Over Fake Caste Certificates.ā
It said police took dozens of nude protestors into custody while they were marching towards the state legislative assembly. The protesters were demanding action against people who got government jobs using fake caste certificates.
The protest was also reported by Aaj Tak and Dainik Bhaskar with the same details.
Hence, we conclude that the viral video showing a nude protest by men in Chhattisgarh is being falsely linked to the crisis in Manipur.
