Hyderabad: A video of a massive train accident involving a pile-up of multiple trains with several coaches being derailed has gone viral on social media. Users sharing the video have claimed that the accident happened in Pakistan’s Nawabshah.

An X user shared the video with the caption, “28 people were killed and 50 injured when a passenger train derailed near the city of Nawabshah, Pakistan. (sic)”

Another X user shared the video with the caption, “Tragic Train Derailment in Pakistan: 30 Lives Lost, 100 Injured.”

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the video shows the visuals of the tragic triple-train collision, which happened in June this year in Balasore, Odisha. As many as 293 people were killed and over 1,200 were injured in the accident that occurred near Bahanaga Bazar railway station.

We managed to navigate to the video’s original source after noticing the logo of the Odisha TV channel in the viral video.

We looked for the video with a relevant keyword search on the verified YouTube channel of Odisha TV and found it published on June 3, titled “Odisha Train Mishap | Aerial visuals shows the intensity of train accident.”


We also found video reports on the Balasore train tragedy by India Today and The Times of India showing similar visuals as seen in the viral video.

Hence, we conclude that the viral video shows visuals of the Balasore triple-train accident and is not from Pakistan.
