Fact Check

NewsMeter searched for any recent aircraft accident from India and found no such incident took place recently.

Using 'Aeroflot' as a clue, NewsMeter performed a keyword search and found News reports dated 5th May -19 by CNN and NDTV which clarifies that the incident took place back in 2019.

On performing a reverse image search, we found similar clips of the same incident dated 6th May-19. The Guardian published the video with the caption: 'More than 40 people onboard a Russian Aeroflot passenger plane were killed on Sunday after the aircraft caught fire as it made a bumpy emergency landing at a Moscow airport.

The same video was also published on April 16th, 2022 by 'The Telegraph'. "New footage has been released of a plane fire which killed 41 people in Moscow last year. The harrowing clips show desperate passengers fleeing 100ft flames after an emergency landing at Sheremetyevo airport. The plane was airborne briefly before returning to make an emergency landing, and, still heavy with unburned fuel, the jet ignited after a rough touchdown. Ten people were injured and 37 people escaped from the plane alive. The pilot Denis Evdokimov has been formally charged with negligence over the crash landing," it wrote.

It is evident that the Moscow air crash video is being passed off as a recent incident in India.
