Fact Check: Video of PM Modi talking about India’s beef exports has context missing

Hyderabad: A video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi talking about a Pink Revolution and meat trade is going viral on social media.

In the video, he could be heard saying, “Pink revolution is the dream of India. We want to export meat everywhere in the world. The Indian government has announced this year that we are the top exporter of beef in the world.”

NewsMeter investigation found that the video is clipped and is from 2012. In the unedited video, PM Modi, who was the Gujarat chief minister at the time, was criticising the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government.

Taking a cue from the viral video, we ran a keyword search and came across an extended version of the viral video published on Modi’s official YouTube channel on November 23, 2012.

As per the video’s description, at the Annual General Meeting of JITO, Modi had said that the UPA government wants to bring Pink Revolution and is not giving importance to Green Revolution and White Revolution. He also said the government had announced that India leads in beef export.

In the video, he can be heard saying, “Brothers and sisters, do you know what is the dream of the present government sitting in Delhi? White Revolution or Green Revolution is not important for them. Their aim is the Pink Revolution. What is Pink Revolution? When an animal is killed, their meat is pink coloured. That is why the government sitting in Delhi wants to have a Pink Revolution and export meat and mutton worldwide.”

One minute into the video, in the clip which is part of a viral video, Modi says, this year the government have themselves announced that they are the top exporter of beef in the world. He adds that his heart cries that the government is proud of promoting the Pink Revolution.

Hence, we conclude that the viral video has been edited selectively and is being shared without the right context to mislead people.
