Hyderabad: A video of police lathi-charging a group of people has gone viral on social media, with the claim that the video shows people thrashing the rioters in Haryana’s Mewat (Nuh was earlier called Mewat).
An X (formerly Twitter) user shared the video, sarcastically commenting, “Policemen gave good holy offerings to those behind the riots in Mewat.” (Translated from Hindi)

Multiple X users have also shared the video claiming the same.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the video is not from Haryana’s Mewat. The video shows Patna police lathi-charging BJP workers who were protesting against the state government on teacher recruitment.
On performing a reverse image search of the video’s keyframe, we found the same video posted on X on July 13, 2023. The user mentioned in the caption that the video shows police lathi-charging BJP workers in Patna.
Taking this as a cue, we ran a keyword search and came across a video report by Mirror Now published on July 13, 2023, titled “Patna Protest | BJP Workers Lathi Charged, Police Use Tear Gas | BJP Worker Dies | Bihar Protest.”
We found the same visuals in the report as seen in the viral video. We also noticed the signboard of a store with the letters ‘CHHABRA SPORTS’ in both videos.

Using Google Street View, we found that the store is located on Mazharut Haque Path in Patna. The signboard has been updated but the shop is the same.
Hence, we conclude that the viral video of the lathi-charge is from Patna in Bihar. The claim that the video shows police lathi-charging rioters in Haryana’s Nuh is false.
