Hyderabad: A short clip from Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Brahma Sarovar during the 114th day of the Bharat Jodo Yatra on 8 January has gone viral on social media with a misleading claim.

In the viral video, we can see Rahul Gandhi taking pauses while performing the aarti at the Brahma Sarovar temple. Netizens called him out for doing it on purpose to get his photos taken.

NewsMeter found that the video has been taken out of context and the claim is misleading

After carefully analysing the video, we found the source of the video is ANI. We checked ANI’s official Twitter page and found an extended version of the video.

According to the tweet, the video is from Rahul Gandhi’s Brahma Sarovar visit and shows him performing the aarti in Kurukshetra, Haryana. In the video, we can clearly see Mr. Gandhi trying to replicate the way the brahmins are performing the aarti.

Further, we found the full version of the video on the official YouTube channel of the Indian National Congress and Rahul Gandhi from 8 January.

It is evident that Rahul Gandhi was not deliberately posing for photographs but was trying to replicate the way the brahmins were performing the aarti.

Hence, the claim is misleading.
