Claim: Rahul Gandhi said that Narendra Modi will return as the Prime Minister of India after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Fact: The viral clip has been manipulated. In the unedited version, he asserts that Modi will not be the Prime Minister again.

A video of Congress leader purportedly Rahul Gandhi saying Narendra Modi will return as the Prime Minister of India post the 2024 Lok Sabha polls is widely circulated on social media.

In the video, Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “Narendra Modi will be the prime minister of India. I am telling the truth in advance, on June 4, 2024, Narendra Modi will remain the prime minister of India. You can take it in writing that Narendra Modi will become the Prime Minister. We have put in all the necessary hard work. Now, you will see that our alliance will not win a single seat in Uttar Pradesh. Those smiling know that Rahul Gandhi is speaking the truth and that Narendra Modi is set to become the Prime Minister. End of story.”

“Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made a big prediction in a rally on the coming 4th June... listen to it yourself,” wrote an X user sharing (Archive) the video.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false as the video has been heavily manipulated.

We looked for the video on the Congress party’s YouTube channel and found a video of a public meeting of the INDIA bloc live-streamed from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on May 10, 2024.

Several leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, spoke before Rahul Gandhi during the public meeting. At around 43:55-minute timestamp, Rahul starts addressing the public. The original version of the viral clip appears around the 46:00-minute timestamp.

In this video, Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “I am telling you the truth in advance, on June 4, 2024, Narendra Modi will not remain the prime minister of India. Take it in writing that Narendra Modi can not become the prime minister of India. We have put in all the necessary hard work. Now, you will see that our alliance will not get anything less than 50 seats in Uttar Pradesh.”

Further attacking the media, he said, “We have already stopped the BJP in every state. Adani’s media will not speak the truth. They are our brothers and we love them but they will not write the truth because they need salary for the upbringing of their children. But if you see their face right now, they are smiling because they know Rahul Gandhi is speaking the truth and Narendra Modi is not becoming the prime minister again. End of story.”

Congress party's official X account also shared a comparative collage featuring both the original and edited videos, alleging that the BJP had tampered with the footage.

Rahul Gandhi also reposted the collage, reiterating his stance that Narendra Modi will cease to be the Prime Minister after June 4.

Hence, we conclude that the viral clip of Rahul Gandhi saying that Modi will be the Prime Minister again has been heavily altered. The viral clip is misleading.
