Claim: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh spoke critically about prime minister Narendra Modi and asked people to vote for the Congress party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Fact: The viral video is edited. In the original video, Singh praises PM Modi for celebrating the cultural heritage and legacy of India.
Hyderabad: Ahead of the first phase of voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on April 19, a video of Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is circulating on social media, allegedly showing him speaking critically about prime minister Narendra Modi.
In the video, Singh could be heard saying, āThe purpose of Modi ji has been to celebrate our sad life, unemployment and inflation. India is moving at a great pace towards injustice but we should not stop talking about development and justice. This is why we must think and vote wisely.ā The video ends with an advertisement stating that only the Congress party can do justice and urged the voters to vote for the party.

The viral video shows Singh speaking to the news agency ANI. Taking this cue, we searched for the video on the ANIās YouTube channel and found an extended version of it published on April 14, 2024, titled āRanveer Singh, Kriti Sanon visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple; laud PMās āVikas Bhi, Virasat Bhiā vision.ā
At the 2:18-minute timestamp, the viral clip appears in the video.
Singh could be heard saying, āThe purpose of Modi has been to celebrate our rich cultural heritage, history and legacy. India is moving towards modernity at a great pace but we should not forget our roots and cultural heritage. This is why there should be importance of legacy along with developmentā¦ā He further said that Kashi is a fusion of present, past and future and praises the current development in Kashi Vishwanath.
According to ANI, on April 14, Ranveer Singh and Kriti Sanon visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi to offer prayers. Both the actors also enjoyed a boat ride along the ghats of Varanasi after the temple visit. We also found the original clip of Singh praising PM Modi published by NDTV, ET Now and News9 Live.
