Hyderabad: As the election campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is heating up, a video showing a man hurling a shoe at a leader delivering a speech on the stage during a public meeting is viral on social media with the claim that it shows a shoe being thrown at BJP leader and Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

We ran a relevant keyword search and found a video report by News 24 published on May 29, 2017, titled ‘Shoe hurled at Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in Gujarat.’

According to the channel, the incident happened in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar. It also mentioned that the person who hurled shoes at the Union minister reportedly belonged to the group demanding Patidar’s community reservation.

A Hindustan Times report of May 28, 2017, said an activist of Hardik Patel-led Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti hurled a shoe at Mandaviya during a public function in Vallabhipur town in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district. It also reported that the local police arrested the 20-year-old college student Bhavesh Sonani following the incident.

The Times of India and NDTV also reported the incident with the same details.

According to a report by The Economics Times of April 8, the Gujarat BJP has filed a complaint with the poll authorities seeking action against those circulating the old video.
