Hyderabad: A video of two cops drinking liquor and having a gala time on duty is going viral on social media. Users claim that the incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh during the rule of chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
"In Yogi's government, the people of Uttar Pradesh are more scared of men in khaki uniform than the goons. Look at how 100 number police are drinking alcohol openly in broad daylight. This is their (cops) duty, jungle raj in Uttar Pradesh, jungle raj in Modi's regime (sic)," reads the caption
The claim is false.
NewsMeter performed a Google reverse image search and found that viral video is true. But this incident has not occurred in the Yogi government's tenure. We, therefore, found many reports by the mainstream media that would deny the viral claim.
According to a report by OneIndia Hindi published on March 16, 2017, during the UP assembly elections, a shameful video of Dial 100 police surfaced. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was claiming his victory boasting about Dial 100 help.
This video has exposed the claims of Akhilesh Yadav in which he used to say that the police stations of UP now run on dial 100. The incident occurred in Shamli district. On Holi, Dial 100 duties police indulged in booze and rioting.
Both the policemen seen in the video were drunk. A cop is seen saying that this is a police festival and we will also do duty and celebrate the festival. After the news of Dial 100 policemen drinking alcohol went viral, three policemen were suspended by SP Ajaypal Sharma.
We then found a YouTube video by NMF News on March 16, 2017. The description of the video stated that on the occasion of Holi, Shamli policemen were completely drunk. They had the drink on the bonnet of Dial 100 vehicle.
We then search for the reports as to when did CM Yogi Adityanath had taken the oath as the Chief Minister of UP. We did find many reports which were published on March 19, 2017. We found reports by The Hindu, Business Standard, The Indian Express, News 18, and many more.
It is therefore evident that the viral claim is false. This video surfaced when Akhilesh Yadav was the chief minister of UP. This video has been doing rounds since 2017.
