Fact Check: Video of US President Joe Biden picking books on dementia is digitally altered

Hyderabad: An Instagram video claiming to show US President Joe Biden picking books from the ‘Brain Exercises and Dementia’ section at a bookstore has gone viral on social media. Using the video, netizens claim that Biden is suffering from dementia in his old age.

NewsMeter found the claim to be false as the viral video is altered.
We performed a reverse image search with relevant keyframes from the viral video and found the original version of the video on multiple media YouTube channels and websites such as C Span, The Associated Press and CBS News.
According to the extended version of the viral clip, the video is from 2012 which shows the grand opening of the first Costco wholesale outlet in Washington DC, visited by then vice-president Joe Biden.
On closely analysing the original video, we could not find the sign that read ‘Brain Exercises and Dementia’ anywhere. The viral clip could be seen in the videos at 6:15 minutes.
Hence, the claim that Joe Biden was picking books related to brain exercises and dementia is false.
