Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the video is from Oman in 2022.
While skimming through the comment section of the post, we found a user saying that the video is from Oman last year. He also said those swept away by waves are from Sangli, Maharashtra.
Taking a cue from this, we ran a relevant keyword search and came across a report by News18 from July 14, 2022, which carried the still from the video. It also carried the same video tweeted by IPS Shikha Goel.
According to the report, a 42-year-old man from Maharashtraās Sangli district and his two children were swept away by strong waves off the coast of Salah al-Mughsail beach in Oman.
The man identified as Shashikant Mhaman, tried in vain to save his children, Shreya (9) and Shreyas (6), from the strong waves.
An NDTV report titled āOn Camera, Indian Man, 2 Children Swept Away On Oman Beachā from July 14, 2022, also reported the incident with the same information. The Indian Express also reported the incident on July 14, 2022. It also said that the incident took place at Omanās Salalah Al Mughsail beach.
Hence, we conclude that the video is from Oman, not Mumbai. The claim is false.
