An advertisement showing belly patches to cause a drastic body transformation is viral on social media.
In India, the prevalence of overweight and obesity has increased rapidly in recent decades. That gives manufacturers a chance to launch dummy weight loss products to fool people.
This viral belly patch claims that you can slim down only by sticking this patch to your belly. The patch also claims a visible transformation in just 3 weeks of usage.
FACT CHECK
NewsMeter found the claim to be false.
Healthline says, āWeight loss patches have not been proven safe or effective for weight loss.ā
It also adds, āAny studies conducted by the product manufacturers are typically small and do not meet the usual standards for scientific research. Some of these weight loss patches may have a minimal impact on weight loss, but there may be side effects that overwhelm that minimal impact.ā
Moreover, according to Medical News Today, āResearchers have not studied the efficacy and safety of weight loss patches. However, limited evidence exists to confirm the effectiveness of some of the ingredients when people take them orally.ā
A study titled āTransdermal Drug Delivery Systems and Their Use in Obesity Treatmentā states: āAt present, drugs through transdermal administration to treat human obesity have not been reported. In general, TDDS for the treatment of human obesity still needs further study to investigate the effectiveness of drugs on the human body, long-term use safety, efficacy sustainability, ease of use and appropriate dosage, and so on.ā
It is quite evident that these belly patches donāt work on even a single inch of your body rather the best way to achieve the desired weight is to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly.
