Hyderabad: Social media is flooded with posts about the death of Hungarian-born American investor and philanthropist George Soros. Users have claimed that Soros’s family confirmed that he died of a heart attack at the age of 92.

They attributed the claim to the Twitter handle @PoliticsFAIRL. (Click here, here, and here to view the posts.)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false.

We ran a keyword search and came across a report by The Economic Times from 16 May. It said Soros has been the victim of a death hoax, and the claim about his death is untrue.

A fact-check report by Reuters published on 15 May also called the claim false. It said a spokesperson for Soros told Reuters that he was alive and healthy on 15 May and rumours that he suffered a heart attack is false.

Soros also took to Twitter to clarify that he is healthy and alive and rumours that he had a heart attack are false.

Hence, we conclude that the claim about George Soros’s death is false.
